Sharing Chemical Engineer's Challenging, Exciting, Interesting and Stimulating Life...

I'm Now A Chemical Engineering Ph.D Student

Exactly one year ago, I joined Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) as a lecturer in the Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering after almost 6 years working as an engineer. Today, one year as a lecturer, I'm officially a chemical engineering Ph.D student. I'm now on my study leave for three years to do my post graduate study - full time research.

I'm thankful to God for providing me the chance to further my studies and I'm planning to complete my research as soon as possible. When I say as soon as possible, that simply means I plan to complete it under 3 years, if God will. I hope everything will be smooth.

I'm going to update the progress of my research from time to time in this blog as well in my personal facebook status. So, if you are interested to get updated with my progress, you can keep on following me in this blog and also via my facebook account.

If God will, I'll be doing an attachment for my Ph.D studies with Helsinki University in Finland. I'm allowed to do my research there for a maximum of 9 months within the space of 3 years. My co-supervisor will be from there, besides my main supervisor, Prof. Dr. Nor Aishah Saidina Amin in UTM.

You might be wandering what is my Ph.D topic? It's something to do with catalysis engineering and developing a process. I will reveal the topic if there are 17 people asking for it... :) ...

Anybody doing their post graduate studies now? or planning to continue their studies? Maybe you want to share something...

Hasyimi,
I think you better send me a private email and please mention what is your career goal...This will help me to answer your question....

David.

Why do you want to swap to private uni?
Is the equipment and facilities better?

Are they financially sound to support your studies?

bioprocess is almost like chemical engineering...i think it should be ok...

However, i still believe public uni is better than private uni...

coz if i choose private uni at kl there will be near my house.and study unimap here is very hard.the school are separate far each other n we ned to take bus go thr go here sometime miss the class the lecturer will nt allow u to get in n will scol u.besides that, there very ulu ,very very incovenient.i intend swap to ucsi coz i think private can interact wth internatinal student n the environment n facilities is quite good.my unimap uni is a small factory n separated far each other.one schol go other schol take bout 40minutes.different lecture different place.we have class at 8am we hv to wake up 6am n until 9pm only we can rech hostel.in unimap i cant enjoy my uni life.n there are a lot of pelik activities we r compulsory to joy if not we cant graduate.is that normal things that must be go through or is my thinking plobem?bioproses eng can do master in chemical eng?bioproses eng stl very very new in malysia.i afraid i not easy to find jog after i graduate.

David,

You only highlight the convenience part on your side. I studied in UK before and I also have to walk, run and go here and there. I never complained. That is part of the process.

UNIMAP bioprocess engineering department is quite new but the syllaburse are good. You can take chemical engineering later for masters, I think so...

Normally, private uni can't really afford the equipments and the facilities for chemical engineering courses...it's very expansive. Normally, I think, public uni will have all of this complete.

Furthermore, if you really want to see your degree recognize...public university don't have this problem. I'm not saying that the private uni you want to enter is not recognize, but please check it. If in case, you want to work with the government, will they recognize your degree (the private uni?)

Then, mingling with international students... maybe it's tough in UNIMAP...but in UTM, UIA or other IPTAs, i think this is not a problem.

just my 2 cents...
