More on Carbon Dioxide Usage On Reducing Green House Effect
Thursday, May 03, 2007
The list of carbon dioxide industry applications are not limited to what I included in the recent post. Believe it or not, there are other various ways to utilize carbon dioxide. Webworm has kindly shared with us some information about the usage of carbon dioxide in the oil and gas industry (thanks....). The article entitled CO2 for Enhanced Oil Recovery Needs, written by ,
.....The CO2 value chain is important because it shifts the focus of Green House emissions away from being a regulatory problem to creating a commercial resource. Wherever a value chain exists, a market will evolve and with stable policies and a ‘level playing field’ the most efficient pricing mechanisms will be established and foster further CO2 reductions....
- pure sources of CO2 (e.g., refineries, hydrocrackers, ethanol production etc.);
- CO2-capture from power plants and industrial complexes;
- CO2-gathering, handling and interim storage;
- CO2-transportation (ships and/or pipelines);
- CO2-hubs, terminals and export facilities;
- CO2 for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and largescale sequestration; and
- CO2-credit generation, certification and trading.
Another very interesting information shared by Webworm is "the first integrated CO2 capture"....
There's no need for me to re-iterate the process because the article was clear and straight forward. The project lead by TOTAL is to be set up in Lacq basin, southwestern France and cost a cool 60 million euro.
“This project will demonstrate the role that CO2 capture and sequestration can play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from industrial installations,” notes Christophe de Margerie, President Exploration & Production of Total. “It represents the first integrated CO2 capture system using oxy-fuel combustion combined with storage in a depleted hydrocarbon field.”
